4th of JULY PARADE sponsored by the S.I. Community Club. (If Samish Island has a folklore, this is its prime event!) The Parade is open to all who want to march/ride from Fish Point to the Community Hall. No preregistration required, just get your group to the far end of Blue Heron Rd. by noon and check in with Kris Goodan. Questions? Call Kris, 766-6909.

The S.I. Marching Band will gather at the Community Hall at noon on July 4th. Practices are scheduled for Sun., June 29 and Weds., July 2 at the Hall. (The Marching Band will also be performing in this year's Berry Dairy Parade on Saturday, June 21 in Burlington.) New band members are always welcome - contact Gail Hopley at 766-6823 or ghopley@wavecable.com for more information.

2008 SAMISH ISLAND ARTS FESTIVAL- Planning is well underway for the 12th Annual Arts Festival, Saturday July 26 at the Community Hall. Once again there will be live music throughout the day, freshly cooked oysters and other edibles, and, of course, artists and their creations. If you are interested in participating as an artist and have not done so before, please contact Janene 766-6290 or Karen 766-5096. If you are not an artist but would like to be a part of the festival, in any fashion, please contact Karen at 766-5096. Whether you want to participate on the committee, sign up to be a vendor, or simply want to look for unique local artwork to purchase, the Arts Festival has something for you.

The EDGEWATER GARDEN CLUB does not meet in summer. Members are reminded to send their $10 dues to our new treasurer, Linda Larson, 9976 Samish Island Rd. Those interested in a field trip to Bellevue Botanical Garden on Tuesday, July 15, should contact Karen Hadman,766-5096, for more info. Enjoy your summer when it finally arrives!

Samish Island is a great place to live or visit year round, but the summer months sure are the most fun. The Island-wide Yard Sale has developed into a great social event, as well as a way to move some stuff from some people’s garages to others. The Parade on July 4 doesn’t just happen – if you want to help, give Kris Goodan a call.

Don’t forget tide calendars and community rosters are available at Blau’s.

Crab season, July 16-Sept. 30, Weds. thru Sat. plus Labor Day weekend, is not the whole story. Last year, WDFW opened the season early, with just a couple of day’s notice. You can sign up for e-mail notice of any changes at http://wdfw. wa.gov/lists. (A ticket ruins the fun.) The complete state sport- fishing regulations are available at
https:// fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/erules/index.jsp. Don’t forget little things like sinking pot lines (a line in a propeller can ruin an outboard), regulation escape openings, or the pot lid secured with cotton cord, and names and addresses on red and white buoys. The season starts at 7:00 a.m. the first day, at daylight other days.

A few people have been asking how do they arrange to rent the Community Hall. You can check the SICC web site at SamishIsland.net for a calendar of availability and info, or you can call Eileen Andersen at 766-8202.

Check out the new community cooperation blog - (http://www.samishsaves.blogspot.com/). Steve Hoffman has been working on a lot of ideas of how we can use a community blog to share rides, trips to town, tools and equipment, and some labor and services, all communicated a lot quicker than the monthly ads in the Shore Lines. Thanks Steve.

At the May SICC meeting I volunteered to get a Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) organized for any interested island residents. This is a very intense class with a lot of hands on practice. It is 8 sessions long, 3 hours each time, with a practice drill at the end that can be up to 6 hours. There was a good show of hands of interested people. I need to know what time you would prefer it to be (day or evening), and which day of the week will work best for you, or the one day that would not work for you. My plan is to have the sessions on the island. I can be reached at 360-766-8107(h) or 360-708-0620(c), or email me at rwyckoff@wavecable.com. I'm sure you may have questions before committing and I can get those answered also. I think we could even do one this summer if there is enough interest for that. RutheiaWyckoff
