Annual Events
Island Potluck Dinners:
Community potluck dinners are held throughout the year at the Community Center, on Sunday evenings Community members bring dishes to share, chat with neighbors, and hear announcements from Islanders. Check the Samish ShoreLines for dates.
Winter Light Photo Celebration:
Join your neighbors and engage in your community during 48 hours of image-making and subsequent photo celebration. The goal is to share how you view the world from your own perspective. How do you see the birds on the bay? What is your view of the clouds in the sky? What strikes you visually? At the celebration, bring your favorite dessert and winter beverage then view the photos and chat with neighbors. Check the Samish ShoreLines for dates.
All-Island Yard Sale:
The All-Island Yard Sale is held in June. A small fee supports advertising, yard markers, signs and maps. Check the Samish ShoreLines for the date. Some visitors have enthusiastically claimed: “It’s the best garage sale in the county!”
Fourth of July Celebration:
Imagine makeshift, humorous, or clever floats. Visualize old cars and fire trucks filled with waving people tossing candy. Witness flags, families, kids on trikes, bikes, skateboards, strollers, and so much more. The parade takes place on Blue Heron Road and begins at 1 pm. It’s a great opportunity to see your neighbors and their guests.
Samish Island Arts Festival:
Join your neighbors at the Samish Island Community Center on the last Saturday of July, as you stroll through gallery booths of some of the Island and region’s best creative arts. This festival is the largest event held at the Community Center each year.
Holiday Kickoff:
This pre-holiday event is sponsored by the Edgewater Garden Club and is held at the Samish Island Community Center on the first Saturday of December. Islanders and guests can purchase holiday gifts from the Garden Club, SICC and Island artists, learn how to make wreaths and swags from Garden Club members, and share holiday edible goodies and hot beverages with friends and neighbors. Join us and enjoy welcoming the holiday season.
Island Holiday Celebration:
This holiday celebration of the season, with Island entertainers of all ages, is generally held in mid-December at the Community of Christ church on Scott Rd. The Samish Island (Sitting) Band plays carols before the formal program. See the ShoreLines and this website for details.
